Dr Amireh Fakhouri 's speech at the award ceremony

Our recently fellowed Dr Amireh Fakhouri has been given the award of Victorian GP in training of the year by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr Fakhouri, during her GP training at Utopia Refugee Health, started up an organisation called Venus Women's Health to increase access to women's health; She completed a research project on hepatitis B; passed her general practice exams; fought a class action case to recognise and remunerate the efforts of doctors in training in NSW hospitals and remained dedicated to providing care at Utopia to patients with complex needs. On top of this, Amireh has been an activist, shining a light on the horrors of the war in Palestine,

particularly on the targeting of hospitals and healthcare professionals. Amireh, being Palestinian-Australian has had to live every day with the worry of what is happening in her homeland and suffer attacks that we are now all to familiar with on people who speak up about the war. For all of this and more, this award is well-deserved. Congratulations Amireh!
