The Federal Government announced in 2023 that it is rebuilding Medicare for the 21st century. A suite of reforms were announced including enabling healthcare professionals to work at the top of their scope and to work in multi-disciplinary teams. These principles are bread-and-butter for those of us who work with disadvantaged and marginalised populations. Utopia Refugee Health with funding from Werribee Mercy Hospital implemented in 2020 a child health clinic which involves close collaboration between a paediatrician, a social worker, GPs and refugee health nurses. We see children with complex developmental problems and neurodiversity in the community. Click here to read more about this program. A big thanks to Dr Dan Mason and Dr Kathy McMahon from Werribee Mercy Hospital for making this happen.
