Hello and welcome to Utopia Refugee and Asylum Seeker Health. For those of you who are unfamiliar with our work, we are a team of like-minded individuals who strive to provide high quality, low-cost primary care to refugees and asylum seekers in the Wydnham LGA in Melbourne's west. We are a non-government organisation and started up in 2020 with no help from state or federal government. Our team are experts in primary care for refugees and asylum seekers and many of us at all levels of the organisation come from refugee backgrounds. When we started in 2020 the clinic was a trial to see if we could last 2 years without going bust. 3 years on, I am proud to say that with the support of our colleagues, the communities that we serve and philanthropy we are not only surviving, but thriving. In honour of our journey from a rag-tag group who sat around my dining table in 2016 and tossed ideas around to a clinic with 5 consultant GPs, one registrar, 5 nurses, 4 bicultural workers, 3 visiting specialist and more.... we have decided to start this blog to showcase some of our talented staff and the work that they do. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who have made Utopia possible and continue to assist.... and to encourage others to come to the table and start a conversation with us
